The Vice President Banker in Public Sector Banking Japan is responsible for managing and developing relationships with key public sector clients, including Japanese government ministries and agencies, policy institutions, public pension funds, development organizations, government-affiliated entities, and other strategically important public sector stakeholders. Working closely with senior bankers and product partners across Banking, Markets, and Services, the Vice President will originate business opportunities, deepen client relationships, and deliver strategic financial solutions aligned with clients' evolving funding, investment, and policy priorities. The role requires strong judgement, relationship management, and execution capabilities, together with a deep understanding of Japan's public sector landscape, evolving geopolitical and economic dynamics, and the ability to connect client needs with Citi's global network and product capabilities. The overall objective is to drive sustainable revenue growth, deliver exceptional client outcomes, efficiently deploy the firm's capital, and maintain the highest standards of risk management and regulatory compliance.
- 6-10 years of relevant experience in Corporate Banking, Public Sector Banking, Sovereign Coverage, Financial Institutions, Investment Banking, Government Advisory, or related financial services roles. - Strong understanding of banking products including lending, cash management, payments, foreign exchange, capital markets, and risk management solutions. - Experience covering government ministries, agencies, policy institutions, sovereign or quasi-sovereign entities, development organizations, or other public sector clients is strongly preferred. - Strong credit, financial analysis, transaction execution, and stakeholder management skills. - Demonstrated ability to coordinate across product partners and manage complex client relationships. - Strong interest in public policy, economic development, geopolitics, industrial policy, and public finance. - Excellent interpersonal, communication, presentation, and relationship management skills. - Native-level Japanese language proficiency (reading, writing, and verbal communication) is required. - Business-level English proficiency is required, including the ability to communicate effectively with regional and global stakeholders. - Japan Securities Dealers Association (JSDA) Class 1 and 2 certifications.
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience required. - Master's degree, MBA, or advanced degree in Finance, Economics, Public Policy, International Relations, or related disciplines preferred.
