Microsoft Cloud Operations and Innovation (CO&I) is the team behind the cloud. Within CO&I, the Datacenter Engineering (DCE) team is responsible for delivering core datacenter infrastructure for Microsoft’s cloud business. The MS portfolio consists of complex, multi-disciplinary, large scale, multi-year datacenter construction and lease projects. We are looking for a passionate, high-energy individual to help build the cloud datacenters that power the world’s largest online services. The Datacenter Engineering Design Manager will manage the engineering scope, schedule, and budget for greenfield, brownfield and retrofit engineering / design projects. This specific position will support our network and regional growth in the North-East Asia region and this position will manage internal and external resources for the delivery of the Datacenter building, power, cooling, telecom, and controls infrastructure to align with Microsoft Corporation datacenter capacity roadmap for the APAC region. The Datacenter Design Manager will be responsible for the facilitation and delivery of Microsoft’s industry-leading datacenter designs including the development of innovative technology and advanced concepts from Site Due Diligence through design development, permitting, construction, and the turnover to Operations. This role will provide design management, technical direction, decision-making and overall leadership for our datacenter designs. To be successful in this role the candidate will oversee the delivery of multiple, concurrent, complete Datacenter design solutions aligned with the scopes, schedules, and budgets of the projects. The Design Manager will engage with key MS stakeholder groups within Microsoft as well as outside vendors who specialize in datacenter architecture and engineering.
- Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Engineering, or related field (i.e. Project/Programme Management) - Technical understanding of mission critical environments on a multidisciplinary level - Strong written and verbal communication skills. - Experienced and has the ability to lead team of architects and engineers in advanced engineering and operational processes and procedures as they relate to large data center environments. - Experienced with design & construction procurement and contract - Fluency in Japanese and English language skills
- Minimum of 10 years’ experience in engineering, equipment and/or construction for mission critical or hi-tech industry - Minimum of 5 years’ experience as project or team manager
