AI Enablement designs how the Mercari Group builds products next (Mercari AI PDLC: Product Development Life Cycle). Our mission is to convert the Group's product development process into an AI-native one, across the Marketplace, FinTech and Cross-Border businesses. Our customer is internal: every discipline that works inside the development process, including Product Management, Engineering, Design, QA, BI, Marketing, and Compliance and Legal. We work alongside product teams to learn what genuinely helps them, and with the engineering teams that own shared services to turn what works into something the whole Group can rely on. AI capability changes every quarter. We keep a clear view of what AI can do today and what it will do in six to twelve months, and plan against both. What we deliver is a better way of working, measured by how widely teams adopt it and keep it. Under a development structure that assumes AI, we pursue both speed and the maximization of customer value. Product Managers concentrate on problem discovery and business outcomes, moving products forward the AI-native way. With AI, the scope of one person's role expands. A small team can own a whole product area, so we run more of those teams and pursue more customer value at once. Each team owns its area from problem to release and retains the judgment of what to build and ship. Hundreds of engineers, product managers, designers, QA engineers and analysts build Mercari's products across several businesses. You will own how they work: the tools they use, the practices they follow, and the process they run. You will work out what the best version of the development process looks like when agents can write, test and review a large share of the work, and what must change to get there. You will work it out with the teams, prove it with working software, and make it the way Mercari builds. You will own the strategy and roadmap for how Mercari builds products by defining an AI-native way of building, deciding what comes next using evidence from teams, the market and your own experiments, aligning the plan with leadership and function leads, and revising it when better evidence arrives. You will find problems worth solving by working directly with product teams across the Group, observing where current ways of working cost time or quality, turning findings into prioritized hypotheses with agreed success conditions, and using AI tools to accelerate research, analysis and prototyping. You will build prototypes and prove they work, set success criteria with affected teams before pilots, evaluate results, and decide which experiments should graduate into platform services and scale across the company. You will drive adoption through onboarding, documentation, training and internal communications, treat enablement as a product with users, quality standards and measurable outcomes, and track adoption alongside output quality. You will work across Product Management, Engineering, Design, QA, BI, Marketing, Compliance and Legal, building shared understanding of what changes and where each team's autonomy begins, and give leadership a clear position on AI's current and near-term capabilities and their implications. Examples of tools used on the job include Claude and Gemini for general chat and generative AI; Notion AI and NotebookLM for knowledge Q&A and research support; Claude Code, Cursor, GitHub Copilot, Devin, Codex and Gemini Code Assist for development support; and Zapier and n8n for workflow automation and AI app development. This role affects the daily work of hundreds of people across several businesses. Prototyping is part of the job, and you will build with new tools, often before anyone else has tried them. You will create and publish Mercari's playbook for AI-native product development, use working demos to help teams adopt new ways of working, and decide which tools are worth keeping as foundational services. Working from prototypes, you can improve the quality of team discussions and decisions, free Product Managers to focus on Discovery and Outcome, and move products forward with broad discretion, including planning and driving new customer experiences.
- You resonate with the mission and values of the Mercari Group and of each company. - You can demonstrate consistent ownership from discovery through to delivered value, using AI. - Experience using AI tools for research, hypothesis validation, and prototyping; integrating data and user understanding; and improving the quality and speed of decision-making. - Experience owning a measurable outcome rather than a feature count, and leading the full cycle of discover → build → learn. The outcomes in this role are internal: how widely a new way of working is adopted, and the speed and quality of the work that follows. - Experience owning the period after a release: driving adoption, coordinating across divisions, and learning from how people actually use what you shipped. - Experience in product management for technical products (3+ years), for example internal tooling, developer platforms, SaaS or infrastructure. - Basic knowledge of software development (agile, etc.) and experience collaborating with engineering teams. - Experience extracting insights through data analysis using SQL, etc. - Japanese: Proficient (CEFR B2) or above required. - English: Proficient (CEFR B2) or above required.
- Experience as a technical product manager across more than one domain, for example web, mobile, backend, data or design systems. Breadth matters here more than depth in any single one. - Experience changing how people work outside your own reporting line, and making the change stick. - Practical experience with AI tools beyond chat: supplying the context, defining the tools an agent can call, and checking output quality with an evaluation set. - Experience with internal products, platform work, developer experience or developer productivity, where teams choose whether to adopt what you build. - Experience taking an internal product from nothing to something, and then to widely used. - Experience aligning with Legal, BizOps, leadership and external partners. - Comfortable with experiments and metrics. You can design a test, read the result, and change your mind. - Experience designing enablement, training or technical documentation for an internal audience.
