This role supports the sustainable business growth of sellers operating shops on Mercari Shops, Mercari’s service that enables businesses to open shops and sell products. As part of the Partner Marketing team, you will drive and expand initiatives that help businesses open shops on Mercari and deliver products to more than 24 million individual customers each month. Mercari Shops offers a distinctive value in the e-commerce market: businesses can open a shop from day one in a highly engaged marketplace where more than 24 million people browse, buy, and sell items every month. By lowering the customer-acquisition barrier that is often the first major hurdle for a typical online store, Mercari Shops gives sellers direct access to Mercari’s vast customer base as soon as they list a product. This unique strength is possible because Mercari has its own platform infrastructure. The Partner Marketing team’s mission is to leverage the strengths of this platform to achieve sustainable business growth for shops. Rather than simply helping businesses open shops, the team uses Mercari’s data and a range of channels—including CRM, seminars, and conferences—to work alongside sellers as they build a following and establish a long-term revenue base. Although Mercari is one of Japan’s largest flea-market apps, it is still a challenger in the B2C e-commerce space. In this role, you will leverage Mercari’s vast assets and pursue bold, unprecedented strategies to help make Mercari Shops a new pillar of Japan’s e-commerce market. We are looking for colleagues who will enjoy the tangible impact and dynamism of creating a path to success for a new business in a complex environment—an experience unlike any other. You will lead the development and execution of retention marketing strategies that drive the success and business growth of shops on Mercari Shops. This is a key hands-on role in which you will move beyond conventional approaches and use Mercari’s customer touchpoints—reaching approximately 24 million people each month—and its data to drive initiatives that directly maximize shop sales and improve engagement. You will design communication strategies that combine the most effective online and offline channels, including CRM, online seminars, in-person conferences, and direct-mail campaigns, and manage initiative optimization and KPIs. You will also drive the planning, production direction, and distribution of content—including articles, videos, and manuals—that enables shops to operate independently and maximize sales. You will plan, test through proofs of concept (PoCs), and execute new retention marketing initiatives that go beyond existing frameworks. In the Manager role, you will lead the overall retention marketing strategy, KPI setting and management, roadmap development based on business goals, and team execution. While Mercari is one of Japan’s largest platforms as a flea-market app, it is still a challenger as a B2C e-commerce platform. You will have the opportunity to devise and drive bold initiatives, bringing your own strategies and ideas to life on a platform used by approximately 24 million people each month. You will involve internal and external stakeholders, negotiate and coordinate with them, and turn plans and initiatives into reality through strong ownership and teamwork. You will also develop campaigns based on challenges identified by the Sales team in the field, and update AI-powered analytical reports by integrating CRM and data. In an AI-native organizational culture, you will collaborate with highly specialized colleagues and drive the development of systems that help shops sell—from ideation through execution—with AI use built in from the outset.
