We are seeking an experienced Senior MEP Engineer (Electrical) to join our Building Engineering Team. As part of a multidisciplinary team of approximately 30 engineers, you will deliver electrical building services design across a variety of building projects while collaborating closely with specialists in Mechanical Building Services, Structural Engineering, Façade Engineering and other disciplines. Arup Japan provides design and advisory services across building engineering, renewable energy and related sectors. In addition to collaborating with specialists across the Tokyo office, you will work with colleagues throughout Arup’s global network to deliver projects and develop services through an integrated and holistic approach. As an experienced electrical engineer, you will contribute not only through technical design delivery but also through multidisciplinary coordination, technical problem solving and project leadership. Key responsibilities include delivering electrical building services design across a range of building projects; coordinating and collaborating with specialists in Mechanical Building Services, Structural Engineering, Façade Engineering and other related disciplines; preparing electrical design calculations, specifications, drawings and technical reports in accordance with Japanese regulations, technical standards and related codes; liaising with clients, authorities, contractors and other external stakeholders; supporting submissions, approvals and technical queries during design and construction phases; participating in site inspections, technical reviews and design audits as required; contributing to project planning, resource management and programme delivery to achieve quality, cost and schedule objectives; and supporting project delivery through collaboration with both Tokyo-based and overseas Arup teams.
- 8+ years of hands-on electrical building services design experience in Japan - Strong understanding of Japanese electrical regulations, technical standards, and application and approval processes - Experience delivering electrical design work in Japanese-language project environments - Bachelor’s degree or higher in an engineering-related discipline such as Architecture, Electrical Engineering or Electronics - First-Class Architect, First-Class Equipment Design Architect, Building Services Engineer, Third-Class Electrical Chief Engineer, or equivalent professional qualification, or currently working towards obtaining one
- Willingness to take on new challenges - Ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams - Interest in collaborating with overseas offices and international teams - Willingness to communicate in English. We value a positive attitude towards learning and communication more than perfect English proficiency.
