The Mobility City Development team develops a mobility ecosystem in which advanced products demonstrated in Woven City, such as autonomous driving, eVTOL, and micromobility, and Toyota’s broader range of mobility solutions are connected and complement one another to create value for society. The team also develops the platforms that enable this ecosystem, with the mission of deploying these platforms in real-world environments and growing them into sustainable and scalable businesses. Working with mobility operators, municipalities, and Toyota Group partners, the team combines software, mobility, and urban development to create new services that improve how people move and the value of cities. The team is developing a product that integrates a MaaS system supporting the delivery and operation of mobility services with an end-user application. The product’s capabilities will expand through integration with other services, systems, and urban infrastructure. The role uses a digital product to transform real-world mobility experiences in cities, with a strong emphasis on Genchi Genbutsu: learning directly from the real environment, working closely with users and operators, and translating insights into products that create measurable value in collaboration with Business, Design, and Engineering teams. We are looking for a Senior Product Manager who can independently lead a MaaS product in the development and validation stage, from product strategy through execution. The role takes a holistic view of the product and designs intuitive experiences for people using mobility services and those providing and operating them. It involves structuring ambiguous business and user problems, defining the problems the product should solve, and translating them into a roadmap, priorities, requirements, and a tangible product. The Product Manager is accountable for user value and product decisions, working closely with leads across Business, Engineering, and Design. The role also actively leverages emerging technologies, including generative AI, to improve the speed and quality of product management activities such as research, hypothesis development, requirements definition, and prototyping. The successful candidate spends time in the field observing how the service is used and operated, and proactively drives the product forward with designers, engineers, business teams, municipalities, and mobility operators. Responsibilities include defining and managing the MaaS product strategy, vision, roadmap, and success metrics, connecting user value and business objectives from initial validation to scaled deployment; leading continuous field discovery through observation and interviews with drivers, local residents, operators, and municipal stakeholders; prioritizing features based on user impact, business value, technical feasibility, risk, and learning speed, and translating priorities into outcome-oriented backlogs, product requirements, user stories, and acceptance criteria; working with Product Designers on user flows, interactions, prototypes, and final UI, and validating them through usability testing and real-world operational feedback; using generative AI and other tools to improve research and analysis, hypothesis development, requirements definition, and prototyping; and owning user value and product decisions while coordinating with Business, Engineering, Design, operations, legal, municipalities, and mobility service providers throughout discovery, requirements definition, release, field operations, and continuous improvement.
- 8+ years of professional experience in digital product planning and development, including 5+ years as a Product Manager or in an equivalent product leadership role - Proven experience leading mobile or web products from strategy and product definition through launch and continuous improvement, including at least one 0-to-1 product or experience working in an early-stage hypothesis validation environment - Experience working across multiple user groups, functional areas, and/or external service integrations to define end-to-end user journeys and shared product capabilities - Practical understanding of software architecture and system design, the ability to assess the technical feasibility and trade-offs of complex products, and hands-on experience leading development in close collaboration with engineering teams - Business-level proficiency in both Japanese and English, as well as professional experience working in a Japanese corporate environment
- Experience building products that connect digital experiences with physical operations, such as mobility, MaaS, transportation, marketplaces, or logistics - Experience working with municipalities, public-sector organizations, regulated industries, or urban development stakeholders - Experience taking a product from initial validation to a repeatable deployment model, commercialization, or platform-scale expansion - Demonstrated practice of Genchi Genbutsu and a strong willingness to learn directly from users and operational environments, challenge assumptions, and take ownership in ambiguous and evolving environments
- Competitive salary based on experience - Flexible working time - Paid holiday: 20 days per year (prorated) - Sick leave: 6 days per year (prorated) - Holidays: Saturday and Sunday, Japanese National Holidays, and other days defined by the company - Japanese Social Insurance: Health Insurance, Pension, Workers’ Comp, Unemployment Insurance, and Long-term care insurance - Housing allowance - Retirement benefits - Rental cars support - In-house training program (software study/language study)
