Driver Monitoring Systems (DMS) - detecting driver inattentiveness such as visual distraction and eye closure using in-cabin cameras - are becoming a standard, safety-critical feature in new vehicles. As a supplier delivering DMS to Toyota, our work spans the full mass-production lifecycle: from requirements analysis and product implementation through to functional safety, quality assurance, and delivery to the customer. Our challenges include robustly monitoring drivers, passengers, and the driving environment, and handling anything that could obstruct the camera from recognizing facial features, such as eyewear or facial hair. For the next-generation In-Cabin Monitoring System (IMS), we aim to enhance capabilities, improve robustness, and expand use cases so that drivers maintain the appropriate level of focus depending on the situation and the level of automation in the vehicle - while meeting the stringent safety and quality standards required for automotive mass production. We are looking for an engineer with a growth mindset and a passion for making safe, driverless vehicles a reality and who is excited to grow with us in mass-production automotive development. Our daily work includes analyzing customer and system requirements, implementing and evaluating software, and driving improvements through data analysis - all while considering safety and quality from the earliest phase. You have hands-on experience developing software for a product from the requirements phase through product release, and you are eager to deepen your expertise in automotive safety and quality domains such as functional safety, SOTIF, DRBFM, and quality assurance. You will come to the office 3 days per week per our hybrid work policy, and report to the manager for In-Cabin Perception Development.
- Bachelor's degree or higher in a relevant engineering field - Experience in mass-production product development, including requirements analysis and product implementation - At least 2-3 years of software development experience in C++, Python, MATLAB/Simulink, or other major programming languages - Interest in, and foundational knowledge of, at least one automotive safety or quality domain - such as DRBFM, functional safety (ISO 26262), SOTIF (ISO 21448), or quality auditing - Ability to collaborate in Japanese with Toyota and other group companies in a Japanese-culture business environment (equivalent to JLPT N1 or higher), and conversational English
- Experience in communication software development (e.g. automotive communication such as CAN/Ethernet/SPI, or embedded communication protocols) - Hands-on experience conducting DRBFM (Design Review Based on Failure Mode) - Practical experience in functional safety (ISO 26262) development - Practical experience applying SOTIF (ISO 21448) - Experience in quality auditing or quality assurance for mass-produced products - Experience developing or evaluating image recognition / human sensing systems - Familiarity with data science and analytics - Experience with Agile/Scrum, CI/CD toolchains, or software development on AWS - Work experience outside of Japan / business-level English
