The team keeps our fleet in peak condition to support testing, demonstrations, and real-world deployment, working closely with engineering, drivers, and operations teams to keep autonomy moving forward, every single day. The Field Engineer is a hands-on technical contributor responsible for diagnosing and resolving vehicle software and hardware issues to keep the fleet operational. They will play a critical role in rapid fault triage, ensuring a 5-minute response time while strictly adhering to safety protocols. Working closely with fellow engineers and global teams, they will contribute to seamless operations through effective communication and problem-solving. As part of a newly established function within Fleet Operations, the Field Engineer will help refine processes and drive efficiency in a fast-paced, high-impact environment. The role involves performing on-site fault triage and resolution, diagnosing and repairing vehicle software and hardware issues quickly to maintain fleet uptime; following structured fault diagnosis and repair protocols in alignment with operational workflows; collaborating with fellow field engineers and cross-functional teams to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues; responding rapidly to issues to meet the 5-minute issue response target; maintaining clear communication with the Field Engineering Lead and ensuring smooth handovers across geographical locations; participating in on-call rotations and providing technical support across multiple regions as part of a 24/7 global support network; adhering to safety and compliance protocols; and contributing to continuous improvement by identifying operational challenges and providing feedback to optimise field engineering support and efficiency. The role is based on a rota with shifts Monday to Sunday, including weekends, from 06:00–15:00 or 13:00–22:00. It is on-site at the Tokyo or Yokohama office. Tokyo Ryutsu Center (Heiwajima) Office is the main place of work, with occasional work at the Yokohama office as business needs require. Applicants must disclose any second job.
