Why choose Tesla? At Tesla Japan, you will go beyond traditional roles at automotive dealerships and established technology companies to become a driver of improvement. You will contribute directly to the global mission of accelerating the transition to sustainable energy. This is an opportunity to take part in a global initiative of particular scale and urgency in the Japanese market, extending beyond automotive sales. Tesla combines the framework of a global leader with the agility of a startup. Unlike the slow decision-making processes and hierarchical structures found in many Japanese organizations, you will be given genuine ownership. Our culture is built on first principles: solving challenges quickly, making rapid improvements, and taking the initiative to lead. In the Japanese market, this culture recognizes speed and innovation as unique strengths. While competitors separate hardware, software, and AI development, Tesla treats them as an integrated ecosystem. Our vehicles function as advanced computers that continually evolve through over-the-air (OTA) updates. In this environment, you can develop high-impact expertise at the intersection of cutting-edge AI, autonomous driving, and energy storage solutions. Working at Tesla Japan is an opportunity to join a global innovation network that extends beyond regional boundaries. You will work directly with headquarters and teams in China, Europe, the United States, and elsewhere, bringing global best practices to Japan and adapting them to the local market. At Tesla Japan, advancement is based on results and impact, not length of service. In this merit-based environment, outstanding contributions are recognized immediately, and top performers can move into leadership roles without delay. For those seeking an environment where passion creates meaningful impact, a culture that values agility as a strength, and the opportunity to contribute to some of the world’s most advanced technologies, Tesla Japan is more than just a job. It offers a career opportunity unlike any other in Japan, combining purpose, speed, excellence, and global reach. Join us in bringing Tesla Energy products to Japan to preserve the beauty of the country’s landscapes and provide people with sustainable prosperity. Tesla may be best known for electric vehicles, but its global energy business is also growing rapidly and is certain to become one of its core businesses in the future. By leveraging its software capabilities, Tesla Powerwall can support the balance of supply and demand on the power grid through the coordinated control of thousands or tens of thousands of units, reducing reliance on power plants that generate electricity from fossil fuels such as thermal power. Tesla also develops its own EV chargers, and you can explore ecosystem-based business models, such as providing V2X services by combining home battery storage with EV chargers. These services are possible precisely because Tesla is a technology company that brings AI and energy together. In this role, you can lead efforts to expand these new services beyond homes to a range of businesses, including convenience stores and drugstores. There is nothing quite like the fulfillment of building something from zero to one with domestic and international team members at speed, or the excitement of achieving it. Why not take the leap and join us? In this role, you will drive business development for residential energy products such as Powerwall and EV chargers. Specifically, you will carry out and deliver a range of projects, including developing new business models such as VPP services and identifying business partners, targeting aggregators, electric utilities, and local governments. New business development involves a variety of challenges related to technology, regulations and policy, and partner development. You will need to make these challenges visible and clearly determine what needs to be done, who should be involved, and by when, while applying effective project and stakeholder management. You will be expected to understand Japan’s business environment and commercial practices, and to explain business performance to executives with supporting data and figures, making the position of the Japanese market within the global business clear. You will build and strengthen relationships with aggregators and retail electricity providers to establish partnerships that deliver maximum value to customers with Tesla residential energy products. In addition to these businesses, you will contribute to developing strategies and business plans to promote the adoption of VPP services among transmission and distribution operators and local governments. You will actively collaborate with policymakers, regulators, transmission and distribution operators, industry associations, and external stakeholders to promote the adoption of related services. You will communicate proactively with internal teams—including Sales, Government Affairs, Operations, and Engineering—on policy and regulatory issues to facilitate effective collaboration. You will stay up to date on the latest industry trends and competitor information, report as appropriate to international colleagues, including APAC and U.S. headquarters leadership, identify competitive advantages, and propose sales strategies for Japan.
- Excellent communication, strategic planning, financial modeling, project management, and stakeholder management skills - Entrepreneurial and self-motivated - At least six years of relevant experience in the power or energy industry - Understanding of electricity markets, including balancing markets and capacity markets - Understanding of residential battery storage system site configurations and VPP services, with a track record in business development
- At least four years of experience in energy storage - Experience in business development or a strategy function - Experience presenting to executives - Networks with industry associations or government in policy and regulatory matters
- Competitive compensation - Career growth and advancement based on results and impact
