Our DevOps team owns two main areas: cloud infrastructure, including Kubernetes, networking, security and the Coder development environment, and build infrastructure across GitHub, Bazel, Buildkite, testing and related developer tooling. The two engineers we’re hiring will be the start of our local DevOps presence in Japan, part of a follow-the-sun support model with our UK and US teams. As a Staff Platform Engineer, you’ll help build, operate and improve the cloud platforms, build systems and continuous integration and delivery infrastructure that support Wayve’s software development lifecycle. Working as part of a global team, you’ll create reliable, scalable, secure and efficient environments for software development, testing, deployment and release. As one of the first two DevOps engineers in Japan, you’ll combine hands-on project work with local coverage for Wayve’s global developer-support model during normal Japan working hours. You’ll build, operate and improve cloud infrastructure, CI/CD pipelines and build systems that support development, testing and production, primarily in Azure. You’ll develop and maintain Infrastructure-as-Code, automation and developer tooling for reliable, repeatable delivery; operate and scale CI/CD services, including build agents, runners, artifact storage, distributed execution, caching and containerised workloads; implement observability, monitor system health, and troubleshoot infrastructure, pipeline, build and deployment issues; optimise cloud systems for performance, reliability, security and cost efficiency; work with engineering teams across Japan, the UK and the US to ensure platforms meet application needs and support scalable software delivery; and contribute to the DevOps support channel, incident response and root cause analysis, reducing manual operations through automation.

The Triage team in Application Software Japan, part of Product & Delivery, plays a critical role in the safety, reliability and triage efficiency of Wayve’s ADAS+ systems. It bridges Detective Engineering, Triage Engineering and the component teams, so that root causes in real-world vehicle behaviour are found quickly and accurately and issues get resolved faster. As a Customer Integration Engineer (ML Triaging Engineer), you’ll carry out first-level analysis of real-world run data and on-road interventions, work out likely root causes, and produce Top Issue reports across our test environments and operational domains. You’ll work closely with Detective Engineers on ambiguous or complex runs and with Triage Engineers on automated triage solutions, and you’ll own issues from identification through to documentation and reporting. As Wayve scales, so does the triage team, and you’ll handle multiple triage tasks, requests and safety incidents at the same time. You’ll perform first-level analysis on real-world run data and on-road interventions; investigate issues to identify or narrow down likely root causes and work with Detective Engineers on deeper analysis of ambiguous or complex runs; partner with Triage Engineers to support and improve automated triage solutions; manage the full issue lifecycle from identification and investigation through resolution, documentation, reporting and follow-through; add accurate metadata to interventions, including root cause labels, Jira links and comments; validate triage automation bots, offline metrics and simulation suites, ensuring outputs meet quality standards; give feedback on triage tooling and suggest improvements to usability and speed; take part in regular standups to address emerging concerns, set priorities and adapt to process changes; and contribute to a high standard of safety, quality and operational discipline across triage.
We’re looking for an exceptional technical leader to spearhead our new Japan-based Application Engineer team, a self-sufficient and high-impact group focused on localising and advancing our autonomous driving technology for the Japanese market. This is a unique opportunity to shape Wayve’s AV capabilities in Japan from the ground up. As the founding manager, you’ll lead a small but mighty team of engineers working across robotics, machine learning and systems integration. You’ll drive development of autonomy features tailored to Japan’s road infrastructure, cultural driving behaviours and regulatory landscape, so that our AV stack performs safely and effectively in this distinctive environment. Given the distance and time zone difference from our London HQ, your team will operate with significant autonomy, so we’re looking for someone who thrives in self-directed, startup-like conditions: able to set a vision, execute fast and make robust decisions independently, while staying aligned with global engineering efforts. This role requires breadth. Strong experience across AV systems, including robotics and autonomy, is essential, and deep expertise in machine learning is a major plus.
The Application Engineering (App SW) team sits within Product & Delivery and works on critical initiatives that push the frontier of model-based autonomous driving. That covers core driving performance as well as feature-level intelligence such as personalisation, comfort and collaboration. As an ML Engineer, you’ll design and deliver ML-driven behaviours that scale from assisted to autonomous driving. Your work spans model architecture, data pipelines, evaluation frameworks and real-world deployment. You’ll work closely with the AI Platform, Simulation, Robot SW and Model Release teams to build systems that are performant, adaptable and ready for production. You’ll develop and improve end-to-end driving models with state-of-the-art performance, robustness and generalisation; drive projects on personalised and collaborative driving, including behaviour conditioning, comfort tuning and user alignment; build evaluation pipelines and metrics for closed-loop and open-loop driving performance and product readiness; curate and mine real-world and synthetic data to drive scenario diversity, coverage and feature-specific development; influence architecture choices, training methodologies and deployment pathways for production-scale learning systems; collaborate across teams to keep integration smooth and iteration fast; and mentor engineers while helping shape the long-term technical direction across Autonomy.
