Within TPD, the Cloud Platform Supervisory Department (CPSD) develops and manages Rakuten's state-of-the-art cloud platform, empowering global scalability and accelerating innovation across its diverse business units. The Cloud Services Department (CLSD) at Rakuten Group provides high-quality cloud infrastructure and platform services to application developers across Rakuten. Our mission is to enable secure, scalable, and efficient digital innovation. We deliver key domain services, including compute, storage, core infrastructure components, databases, container platform, observability, and gateway solutions, empowering Rakuten application teams to focus on their core business objectives. The Platform Reliability Engineering Group in the Cloud Services Department manages Gateway, CDN, and Security services, such as the APIC gateway, CDN, and external proxy, that empower services throughout the entire Rakuten Group. We are scaling our infrastructure and reliability capabilities, and we are looking for hands-on engineers to join our multicultural team and help build and operate mission-critical services at enterprise scale, with high quality and SLAs, under a tremendous amount of traffic. As an SRE/DevOps Engineer, you will design, build, and operate the infrastructure, tooling, and automation behind our platform, and own the reliability and operational health of the services you support. We are looking for someone with hands-on experience owning production reliability and a passion for automation, observability, and operational excellence. Your work will include developing, maintaining, and optimizing Ansible playbooks, and ensuring consistent and reliable server configurations across environments; designing, implementing, and maintaining CI/CD pipelines, and collaborating with development teams to integrate automated testing, deployment, and monitoring; building, deploying, and managing containerized applications with Docker, and designing and managing Kubernetes clusters for scalability, reliability, and security; managing production servers for high availability, performance, and security, including Squid proxy servers for caching, filtering, and optimizing network traffic; monitoring server health, participating in on-call rotations, responding to incidents, and driving issues to root cause and permanent fix; owning SLO/SLA targets, improving observability and resilience, and contributing to post-mortems and continuous improvement; and partnering with software engineering teams and architects to promote shared ownership of production reliability.
The Map Solutions team provides AD/ADAS development with reliable access to high-quality map and geospatial data, which feeds machine learning model training, simulation, and system evaluation. We acquire, process, and maintain map data, and we build the tooling that helps teams across the company use a wide range of spatial datasets. You will join our Map Sourcing & Compilation sub-team, which prepares the map data used to develop and evaluate our next-generation driving system as it expands to urban roads. We are looking for a senior engineer with deep expertise in map data: vendor formats, map specifications, and the fine details that determine whether a map is suitable for driving. You will lead our in-house map releases from vendor data to a verified release. You will also help grow the team’s in-house expertise as this work scales. If you enjoy taking end-to-end ownership of a pipeline end to end, and you care as much about how data is checked as how it is built, we would love to hear from you. You will lead in-house map releases for onboard (in-vehicle) development end to end: specification, conversion, verification, and delivery. You will design and maintain in-house map specifications, along with the format conversion and post-processing pipelines that turn vendor data into them. You will build and run quality verification that ensures data integrity, and define the checks and metrics each release must pass. You will deliver ground-truth maps for offboard (non-vehicle) development, including ML labeling, simulation, and system evaluation. You will manage licenses for data and software used in in-house development, such as data usage agreements, to ensure compliant use. You will manage and evaluate vendor data coverage and quality against our standards. You will extend the pipeline to urban roads and to new map types, such as navigation and ADAS maps, for our next-generation system. You will document processes and mentor teammates so map data knowledge is shared across the team.
