WayveOur Fleet Operations Team is responsible for maintaining the safety, performance, and operational readiness of Wayve's autonomous vehicle fleet — from routine servicing and diagnostics to urgent repairs and vehicle readiness for high-visibility events. The team keeps our fleet in peak condition to support testing, demonstrations, and real-world deployment, working closely with engineering, drivers, and operations teams to keep autonomy moving forward, every single day. As a Vehicle Safety Operator, you will support the development of next-generation AI driving systems by operating Wayve vehicles on public roads, evaluating vehicle behaviour, and providing operational feedback to engineering teams. You will act as a critical bridge between real-world driving conditions and the engineers developing Wayve's AI systems. You will support real-world autonomous vehicle testing operations across Japan; safely monitor autonomous driving systems during on-road testing and intervene whenever required; provide structured operational feedback to engineers and research teams to help improve AI driving performance; support data collection and validation activities that contribute to the training and improvement of Wayve's AI systems; and maintain high operational and safety standards while accurately reporting vehicle, testing, or safety-related issues. Operations run 7 days a week, including mornings, evenings, weekends, and occasional travel support. Shift schedules (rota) are issued at least 4 weeks in advance wherever possible. The shift pattern is Monday to Sunday, 40 hours per week/weekend (must be able to work weekends), with shifts of 06:30–15:30 or 14:30–23:30. Vehicle Safety Operators are expected to primarily work from one of our operational sites in Yokohama or Tokyo, with occasional travel to support operations. Operations Lead, Autobidder — Japan
TeslaAs part of the Autobidder team, you will be Tesla's first trading and operations hire in Japan, playing a foundational role in establishing our presence in Japan’s electricity markets. You will oversee the daily operations of grid-scale battery energy storage systems (BESS) in Japanese electricity markets via Autobidder — Tesla's in-house algorithmic trading platform — while building the analytical and operational foundations that will define how we trade and grow in Japan. This is a high-ownership, 0-to-1 role. You will bring deep Japan market expertise to sharpen our algorithms, serve as the primary interface between our Australian and US based teams and the Japanese market, and potentially grow into the Ops Lead for Japan as the business scales. You will work closely with Tesla's APAC Autobidder team, Japan policy colleagues, and external stakeholders including TSOs and customers. This role requires a rare combination of technical depth, market knowledge, and communication skills — someone who can operate independently in a fast-paced environment, translate complex market dynamics into algorithmic insights, and represent Tesla credibly in the Japanese energy industry. Responsibilities: Oversee daily operations of BESS assets participating in Japanese electricity markets (JEPX, EPRX, capacity markets) via Autobidder, managing real-time trading performance and escalating issues as needed. Analyze Autobidder algorithm outputs and trading performance; develop and communicate concrete, data-driven hypotheses for trading and forecasting improvements to the global algorithms team. Build and maintain Python- and Excel-based analytical tools and reports for internal performance tracking and external reporting obligations to TSOs and METI. Monitor and interpret Japanese electricity market rule changes, regulatory developments, and policy shifts — translating these into actionable guidance for Autobidder engineers to inform algorithm design and updates. Develop a deep understanding of Japan-specific market dynamics (e.g. area demand patterns, capacity surplus contracts, interconnector constraints) and surface insights that give Tesla a competitive edge. Serve as the primary point of contact for customer and TSO relationships in Japan, managing communications with professionalism and technical credibility. Support regulatory and operational compliance efforts, including reporting responsibilities to TSOs and METI, in collaboration with Tesla's Japan policy team. Collaborate with the global Autobidder algorithms, software, and market analysis teams to co-design scalable tools and workflows tailored to the Japanese market. The team keeps the fleet in peak condition to support testing, demonstrations, and real-world deployment, working closely with engineering, drivers, and operations teams. Shift Leads are frontline operational leaders responsible for the safe, efficient, and high-performing execution of Wayve’s autonomous driving operations in Japan. They ensure daily operations are conducted with the highest levels of safety and efficiency and foster an inclusive working environment where Vehicle Safety Operators (VSOs) feel their ideas are valued and can voice safety concerns without fear. They work within an autonomous vehicle testing environment, partnering with engineering, fleet operations, and automotive stakeholders to support real-world AI development. The role is mainly based at Tokyo Ryutsu Center near Haneda Airport, with occasional visits to Yokohama. It is a dedicated shift role with morning shifts from 06:30 to 15:30 and night shifts from 14:30 to 23:30. Flexibility outside standard hours may occasionally be required. Operations run seven days a week, so weekend and holiday work may be required depending on the shift; additional special paid leave is provided for employees on the shift schedule. The role offers a pathway into broader operations, program management, and leadership responsibilities. The Shift Lead leads a team of VSOs to deliver safe, high-quality, and efficient on-road testing operations.
